AMALAPURAM Tension prevailed briefly in Machavaram after a natural gas leak was reported at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) installation early on Monday, triggering panic among residents of adjacent villages due to a strong pungent smell.
District administration officials and specialized ONGC technical teams rushed to the site and plugged the breach within two hours, bringing the situation under control. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or health complications were reported among local residents. An official statement noted that atmospheric air monitoring was immediately conducted, confirming that gas concentration levels had returned to normal and there was no further risk to public safety.
