Pawan Kalyan orders strict pollution checks on aqua and pharma units
The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board issued show-cause notices to 95 pharma units in Anakapalli following the Deputy Chief Minister's intervention.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has directed the state pollution control board to strictly enforce environmental standards across all aquaculture processing units to prevent contamination of water bodies. Reviewing the issue at his Mangalagiri camp office, he warned that untreated aquaculture waste is polluting rivers, canals, and groundwater, harming public health, agriculture, and fisheries.
Pollution Control Board officials informed Kalyan that the state currently operates 119 aqua processing units and 12 pre-processing units. Kalyan instructed officials to collect routine water samples and conduct regular testing at these facilities to detect and curb violations early.
Separately, the Deputy Chief Minister intervened following a viral social media video showing foul-smelling, black effluent flowing into drains near the Parawada pharma city in Anakapalli district. Following his directive to inspect the area, PCB officials surveyed the site and found untreated industrial effluents being discharged into stormwater drains.
The board subsequently issued show-cause notices to 95 industrial units in the area, granting them seven days to explain the violations. Officials also mandated that industrial units scientifically manage hazardous waste, prevent any discharge of untreated water, and preserve CCTV footage of effluent treatment for at least six months.
