Supreme Court to Hear YSRCP Plea Over Violence, Nomination Blockade in Andhra Civic Polls on Oct 21
SC to hear YSRCP's plea on violence blocking AP civic poll nominations on Oct 21, challenging the High Court's refusal to extend the nomination deadline.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court’s vacation bench is scheduled to hear on October 21 a petition filed by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), alleging widespread violence and intimidation that reportedly blocked its candidates from submitting nominations for the urban local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. The regional party approached the top court seeking urgent intervention ahead of the scheduled municipal polling.
In its petition, the YSRCP challenged an earlier ruling by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which declined to grant even a single-day extension for filing nomination papers. The party contended that the High Court failed to adequately consider the severe ground conditions, arguing that large-scale obstruction by political opponents fundamentally compromised a level playing field for opposition candidates.
The petition urges the apex court to intervene and ensure fair participation by directing the State Election Commission to extend the deadline. The top court’s vacation bench will review the submission on October 21 to decide whether the poll timeline warrants immediate judicial relief.
