Andhra Pradesh Rains: Low Pressure Triggers Heavy Downpour, Vijayawada Waterlogged

A low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts is set to bring widespread rainfall across Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.

According to Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are expected along the North Andhra coast, while the south coast could see winds of 40 to 50 kmph. Authorities have cautioned residents to stay vigilant and strictly advised fishermen against venturing into the sea.

The APSDMA has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in North Andhra districts over Saturday and Sunday, with moderate showers likely across the southern coastal region. Heavy rains have already disrupted normal life in parts of the state, causing a bridge to wash away and severing transport connectivity to 15 villages.

In Vijayawada, NTR district, weather conditions shifted dramatically on Saturday morning. Sudden torrential downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning flooded low-lying areas and key thoroughfares. The morning surge of rainwater hit during peak school and work commute hours, leaving students, parents, and commuters navigating knee-deep water across submerged roads.
